Welcome!! We are so grateful you are here. Native Gems is ran by husband wife duo, Tanner and Crystal Yellowhair. Tanner Yellowhair is the Diné (Navajo) silversmith and artisan here at Native Gems. Born and raised in Arizona, he learned the art from his father, who learned from his parents and so on! We are a 100% family owned and operated business. Crystal, from small town Tennessee, manages all the socials and clerical aspects! We have 3 perfect boys and can't wait to teach them the tradition someday.

the Yellowhair legacy

Generations of talent

Tanner comes from a long line of artists. Peter Yellowhair, Tanner's great grandfather, was one of the last traditional medicine men. He had all sorts of amazing talents including silversmithing. Tanners grandfather, Robert Yellowhair, was a famous painter and silversmith. He has paintings featured in a Smithsonian as well as the White House. Tanner's father, Loren Yellowhair, is very well know for his beautiful work with Yellowhair Buckles. You can see Loren's buckle frequently worn by Pat McAfee on his show. That is where Tanner learned the art of silversmithing. He spent hours with his dad making belt buckles as early as age 10. In 2017, Tanner decided to start his own business focusing  mainly on turquoise jewelry. And thus Native Gems was born.

We are here to keep the art of Navajo Silversmithing alive. The beauty of turquoise jewelry is something to be shared with people from all walks of life. His designs are made to embrace the tradition without making pieces that are culturally appropriate so that anyone can wear them.
